Kananaskis Country

Kananaskis Country was established in 1978 to provide a mountain playground for Albertans. As the mountain national parks got busier, this newly established 5,000 square kilometre playground offered new opportunities for exploring.

With the winter Olympics in 1988, the word was out and Kananaskis Country became another world-famous mountain playground.

While less well-known than its neighbour Banff, it has the highest hiking trail in the Canadian Rockies and the highest paved road in Canada. There is no end of places to explore in Kananaskis.

Nakiska at Mount Allan, the ski hill built specifically for the winter Olympics still welcomes thousands of skiers and snowboarders every winter.

Trails like Burstall Pass, Chester Lake, Centennial Ridge Trail, Buller Pass, Ribbon Creek, and Ptarmigan Cirque make sure there is no end of places to hike, snowshoe, or cross-country ski.
